Homemade French Fries in the Air Fryer

Today we’re making Homemade French Fries in the Air Fryer. Take a couple of big fresh Russet potatoes, slice them up, season them, and cook them in our Blackstone Air Fryer for one of the easiest, crispiest side dishes you can make.

Blackstone Air Fryer French Fries

We love our Blackstone and have even made frozen fries right on the flat top, too, but there are times that I’ve really really wished for some more options for cooking outdoors if I’m trying to leave my oven off to keep my house cool.

We have a smaller indoor air fryer that we use pretty often for reheating leftovers, and cooking individual portions of frozen convenience foods. We have 3 teenage boys in the house currently, so it gets used pretty much daily. Sometimes multiple times a day.

That is part of the reason why I resisted the urge for so long to get on the Blackstone Air Fryer train. I didn’t think I’d have a ton of use for it since we already had an air fryer in the house, but boy was I wrong.

First, the Blackstone’s Air Fryer Basket is about twice as large as my indoor air fryer. It also operates with gas-powered heat instead of electric (the electricity is to power the fan, don’t make the same mistake I did).

It cooked these fries in a flash, and while they were air frying away I was busy making the best Smash Burgers EVER.

Wash and slice

Make sure to get all of the dirt off of the potatoes! For these, we’re keeping the skin on. Slice the potatoes into sticks.

2

Dry and toss

Pat the potatoes dry with a clean dish towel or paper towels. Toss with the oil, and sprinkle with the seasonings.

3

Fry and shake

Preheat your air fryer, put the potatoes in, and let them cook. Shake periodically and continue cooking until they are golden brown and crispy.

What should you serve with fries?

The class main to go with your fries is always going to be a burger. We have a lot of great options for Burgers here, but let me highlight a few of my personal favorites.

Air Fryer Fresh Cut French Fries FAQ

What kind of potatoes are best for air fryer fries?

We love Russet potatoes for these, but you could try with whatever you have on hand. Potatoes are pretty forgiving!

Can you use a different kind of oil to coat the potatoes?

Yup! You will want to use something with a smoke point that’s higher than the temperature that they’re being cooked at, though. Since we’re running at around 400-425°

Skin on or skin off?

That’s totally up to you. I prefer skin on, when I can help it, but my husband prefers off. That means what kind of potatoes we serve generally depends on who is making them. If you keep the skin on, just make sure to wash them well!

Can you make fries with sweet potatoes?

Yes! Sweet potato fries work great in the air fryer. Try this Air Fryer Sweet Potato Fries recipe next time you are in the mood!

Blackstone Crispy Air Fryer French Fries

Blackstone Crispy Air Fryer French Fries

These delicious homemade fries are made with a couple of fresh Russet potatoes, coated in avocado oil, tossed with bold seasonings, and cooked right in your air fryer!

Prep Time 5 minutes
Cook Time 20 minutes
Total Time 25 minutes

Ingredients

  • 2 large Russet potatoes
  • 3 tablespoons avocado oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons Spiceology Moss

Instructions

  1. Thoroughly wash your potatoes, and slice in into sticks.
  2. Dry with a clean dish towel or paper towels, and toss with the oil in a bowl.
  3. Sprinkle the seasonings over the top and toss to evenly distribute.
  4. Put the oiled, seasoned potatoes into your air fryer basket. Don't overstuff! They don't have to be in a single layer, but enough surface area of each needs to be exposed in order for the air to hit them and crisp them up.
  5. Preheat your air fryer to 425° (or as high as it goes), and put the potatoes in. Cook for 5-6 minutes, and then shake the basket to toss the fries around, and continue cooking for another 5-6 minutes. Continue to cook and shake until your fries are golden brown and as crispy as you'd like them to be.
