Taco Pizza Recipe

Taco pizza is a staple on Midwest pizza restaurants and even in some down-home bars and pubs. This recipe is a classic take on those pizzas that I grew up with, and I think you’re going to love it!

We start with a sturdy, fresh pizza crust. You can make our homemade pizza crust or pick up a pre-made crust from the store. Taco sauce replaces traditional pizza sauce, adding a zesty base for the beef and cheese. Another good option is our homemade enchilada sauce. Whether you use our homemade taco seasoning or a packet from the store, the meat mixture is packed with flavor. Have leftover taco meat hanging around? That works well here too!

Bake the pizza at 425°F in the oven to allow the cheese to bubble and brown and crisp up the crust. If you have a pizza oven and/or a pizza stone, use it! They are amazing, but fortunately not required for this recipe to work out.

This recipe is perfect for serving for a casual Friday family night, or for a nice change-up at your next party or gathering. The flavors are customizable, and allow you to switch up the toppings based on your family’s preferences. If you’re looking for a fun way to shake up pizza night, this taco pizza is a must-try.

  1. Prepare the Crust – If using homemade crust, par-bake it before adding toppings. Store-bought crust can be used as-is.
  2. Cook the Meat – Brown the ground beef in a skillet, add taco seasoning, and drain excess grease. Stir in diced tomatoes with juice and simmer for 5 minutes.
  3. Assemble the Pizzas – Spread taco sauce over each crust, followed by the cooked beef mixture and shredded cheese.
  4. Bake – Place in a preheated 425°F oven for 15-20 minutes until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  5. Garnish and Serve – Top with sour cream, hot sauce, avocado slices, and jalapeños before serving hot.

Tips For Success ⭐️

The key to a great taco pizza is proper layering. Start with the taco sauce, and don’t get too crazy. It can make your crust soggy. Next the meat and topped with all the cheese, each bite has a great balance of flavors and textures. We like to garnish the pizza with sour cream, avocado, lettuce, and jalapeños, but the possibilities are endless here.

FAQ

How do I store leftovers?

Wrap leftover slices in foil or place them in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.

How do I reheat taco pizza?

Reheat in a 350°F oven for about 10 minutes or in a skillet over medium heat until warm. A microwave works too but may make the crust soft.

Can I make this ahead of time?

Yes! You can prepare the cooked meat mixture in advance and refrigerate it until you’re ready to assemble and bake the pizza.

What are some variations I can try?

Try using shredded chicken instead of beef, swapping taco sauce for salsa, or adding toppings like black olives, shredded lettuce, or crushed tortilla chips.
